The highly anticipated inclusion of Chaos in the Dawn of War II game has been confirmed.

When Dawn of War II was released perhaps the most notable omission of the game was the lack of a Chaos faction.  Warhammer 40,000 offers gamers a number of sides to play, but next to the iconic Space Marines are their arch-nemesis, Chaos Marines.  Dawn of War II was well received in most circles but most gamers lamented the lack of the ability to either defeat or play the Chaos faction.

The wait is now over.  THQ has announced a new stand-alone expansion to Dawn of War II - Chaos Rising.  Relic has been at work for some time on this expansion, and in Chaos Rising gamers will have the ability to take the Blood Ravens to war against the forces of Chaos.  In addition to adding new content, Chaos Rising will increase the level cap from 20 to 30.

“Chaos Rising delivers a tremendous amount of new content, including the powerful Chaos Space Marines, new multiplayer maps and units, a new level cap and a continuation of the Blood Ravens single player campaign,” said Kevin Kraff, vice president of global brand management, THQ.  “Relic’s passion for the Warhammer 40,000 universe and talent in crafting innovative RTS games will ensure Chaos Rising is an engaging experience that will advance the franchise and genre.”

“Dawn of War II took intimate brutality to another level and introduced RPG-RTS hybrid gameplay,” said Jonathan Dowdeswell, general manager, Relic Entertainment.  “The epic struggle between Space Marines and the forces of Chaos lets us take those two game-play elements and create an even more intense experience – this time, the battle is personal.”

In addition to the increase in level cap, gamers can also expect to have more powerful wargear, expanded co-op missions, and new multiplayer features.

No release date has been confirmed yet, but gamers should keep checking back with The Wargamer for more information.
