Patrician II
PC GAME PREVIEW posted on 26 SEP 2001 by Jeff Vitous
The original Patrician was wildly popular in Germany, selling more than a million copies according to Patrician II’s North American publisher Strategy First. The sequel looks extremely well polished, with beautiful graphics and an exquisite attention to detail. 2001 has been a very good year for trading games, with Frog City’s Trade Empires and TalonSoft’s The Merchant Prince II to name a few. Patrician II is looking to be the most intelligent, captivating game of the lot.
Corporate Machine, The
PC GAME REVIEW posted on 15 SEP 2001 by Jeff Vitous
The Corporate Machine is a very challenging yet easy to play business wargame. Multiplayer games can be had via Stardock.net, should beating on the virtual Gates become tiresome. An evolution of the Entrepreneur and Business Tycoon series, The Corporate Machine has attractive new features to offer fans of the game. If one hasn't yet tried this series, The Corporate Machine is the game to get: it's a wonderful challenge for wargamer and business fans alike. Whether the changes are enough to rekindle a love affair for those who have burnt out on the other titles is a matter of taste.

Poseidon: Zeus Official Expansion
PC GAME REVIEW posted on 29 JUL 2001 by Gary
Poseidon expands the basic Zeus: Master of Olympus with a few new gods; a couple of new heroes and powers (and new monsters to battle); new crops, minerals, and industry; as well as new sanctuaries and monuments to build. Poseidon replaces the Zeus entertainment culture with a science culture, set in an Atlantic geographic locale, which helps fuel the Atlantis legends.
Rails Across America
PC GAME PREVIEW posted on 3 JUL 2001 by Jeff Vitous
As the title suggests, Rails Across America limits its scope to North America (Canada, United States and Mexico). Conceptually, the game is a cross between all of the titles listed above. Graphically, the game is similar to Railroad Tycoon 2. Like the Tycoon games, one of the objects of the game is to connect cities and move cargo. Rather than micromanaging individual consists (the cargo makeup of a given train), the income generated from an individual line is abstracted, not unlike 1830 (albeit more complex). Finally, there is the political game, using boardgame-like influence cards to attack opposing players, hopefully causing a loss of important prestige.
Merchant Prince II
PC GAME REVIEW posted on 6 JUN 2001 by Jeff Vitous
One might cast a suspicious eye towards the motives of TalonSoft and Holistic Design for not spending more development effort improving the game. Very few games can actually hold up over time, and while Merchant Prince II does show its age, the game play is every bit as good as it was eight years ago. If a good, turn-based trading game sounds appealing and you've never tried Merchant Prince, now's your chance. If you had your fill with past incarnations of the game, Merchant Prince II may not do enough to rekindle the spark.
Tropico
PC GAME REVIEW posted on 13 MAY 2001 by Mike Dorn
Tropico is a rare game that succeeds on many levels. The game is successful no matter whether viewed as a pure building game with a splash of local color and economy, an empire builder with a liberal dose of character development, or a game featuring a balance of politics, building and economy. It does need to be pointed out that Tropico succeeds as a "game," not a simulation, and any who enter the dictator's office expecting an exact representation of reality are bound to be disappointed.
