Don't hate it for being great in spite of what are mostly cosmetic and game balance tweaks in this sterling sequel. If you're craving a truly deft, authentic historical strategy game, this version of Paradox's magnum opus is the one to own.

BOARD GAME REVIEW posted on 26 OCT 2001 by Jeff Vitous
War! Age of Imperialism can be setup and taught in minutes. The map board is exquisitely illustrated and seamlessly mounted, and the plastic units and game pieces are rich in detail. The method of setup and the location of natives and resources ensure each game will have a unique flavor. At once, the game recalls not only Risk but games such as Civilization and Diplomacy as well. War! Age of Imperialism is absolutely ideal for groups of casual or serious gamers, and will even make for a thoughtful family game.

Campaign Eckmuhl ideally recreates Napoleonic warfare and allows gamers to experience an under-analyzed and unique phase in the war between France and Austria in 1809. In addition, Campaign Eckmuhl features extensive editors giving gamers the power to adjust every parameter and modify the action to reflect their interpretation of Napoleonic warfare or explore hypothetical situations. It is a truly flexible game that can be enjoyed by anyone interested in the warfare of this period.
History of the World
BOARD GAME REVIEW posted on 8 JUL 2001 by Mark G. McLaughlin
Six hundred toy soldiers. That is what the buyer will find in Hasbro-Avalon Hill's newest version of the classic History of the World boardgame. For those who have never played any previous versions of the game before, this will be a wonderful treat. People who have older versions of the game will find the Hasbro-Avalon Hill product to be a cleaner, smoother, more fluid game that, while not necessarily better than the previous version, is definitely an enjoyable and valuable variant that breathes new life and new strategies into a much-played favorite.

Europa Universalis is a strategy game covering world-wide grand strategy from 1492, the year of Columbus's discovery of the New World, until 1792, the year of the French Revolution. Gameplay happens in real time, although players may give orders and view the situation while in paused mode. The player represents an unnamed power behind the head of state of one of the great world powers, such as France, England, Russia, and Austria. Lesser powers are also portrayed, as are natives (a.k.a., indigenous, or aboriginal peoples, if you will).
