After a year of waiting, it's finally going to be released.
Half-Life 2 (review) developer Valve Software announced on Friday afternoon a firm date for the launch of Day of Defeat: Source, the long-awaited World War II first-person shooter. Powered by the same engine found in Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source is the sequel to the popular modification of the same name for the original Half-Life. Originally released in 2001, Day of Defeat is a multiplayer-only, team-based World War II FPS in which players battle for control of small maps (it's similar to Battlefield's "Conquest" mode).
After months of waiting, the new Day of Defeat: Source has finally been completed and will be released on September 26th. The new version will not only port the game over to the Source engine, but it will also include all-new player and weapon models, advanced sound technologies to improve the atmosphere, the flexible Half-Life 2 physics engine, and more.
Day of Defeat: Source will be released through Valve's content aggregator, Steam: it will sell as a standalone game for $19.95, or for those gamers who ordered the Half-Life 2: Silver or Gold packages last fall, it will be available for free. Pre-loading and pre-ordering will begin next week.
